I started in the flooring business right out of high school in the summer of 1996. My parents owned a small mom-and-pop floor covering store and I was given the opportunity to apprentice their lead carpet installer. We worked mostly high-end residential carpet projects as well as large commercial projects, but I found myself always enjoying the residential work much more.
After an 8-year apprenticeship I went out on my own. I took over as lead installer for my parent’s store, which had grown quite a bit in that time. I also worked side by side with my mother who managed the shop by herself for so many years. I learned so much from her on the business side. To this day I still implement the systems she taught me for my own business.
I opened my own high-end flooring studio/workroom, Bel Lavoro Carpet (Italian for “Beautiful Work”), in August of 2020. My expertise is fine carpet installations and sales, custom projects, rug fabrication, and stair-upholstery. I love working with designers and I love working with different kinds of wovens and flatweaves, wools, and any natural fiber carpets. My true passion is learning and developing new techniques, practicing the techniques I’ve learned through NFIC, and passing those skills on to other great craftsmen.
